First and foremost, there is not a bad time to vacation in Hawaii. That being said there are times throughout the year that if I were vacationing in Hawaii I would choose.
April
Each year the beginning of April is busy due to most schools have spring and Easter breaks. Since Easter falls on a different date each year it varies as to when these breaks end. Once the breaks are over, the rest of April is great. You still enjoy the cooler days and evening that come with the winter trade winds as well as the island is relatively quiet depending on if there is a conference or not.
Second half of October
This time of year is relatively similar to April. Outside of a few conferences, the island is relatively slow. The first half of October brings the Ironman Triathlon so the island is busy due to that.
My first choice…….early December
Early December is the best time of year to visit the Big Island of Hawaii due to several factors. December- February are the coolest months of the year due to the winter trade winds. It is still warm enough to enjoy the beach during the day, but offers a great evening temperature. While not guaranteed, many years you can begin to see the humpback whales durimg December, which is an great opportunity if you have not seen them before. Lastly, it falls between two of the busier times of the year in Thanksgiving and Christmas and the island is typically very quiet.
