Kapa’a Beach Park

Kapa’a Beach Park is located on the northern tip of the Big Island of Hawaii and offers some of the most scenic views of many of the areas on the island.  While it is a “beach park” it definitely is not fitting to the word beach.

Kapa’a Beach Park is a great stopping place if you are on the northern portion of the island.  It is less than a 5 minute drive off the main road going to and from Hawi.  It offers a nice covered pavilion area with picnic tables.  There are a few grills and picnic tables scattered around the coastline.  There are also bathrooms located here.

The waters at Kapa’a Beach Park are not recommended for swimming.  The coastline is very rocky and if you get in the water it continues to be rocky as you go out.  There is a small stream and sandy area that is fitting for a small child, but if you are going to allow a child to play there you must be very cautious.  The water just off the coastline is relatively rough year round so if you are not familiar with the area we do not recommend this park for swimming at all.  There is a small trail that goes along the coastline if you want to take a short hike.

Overall, you will find a beautiful place to stop and have lunch or just to take in the sounds and smells of the ocean.  There seldomly are many people here so please take that into consideration.
