There is a growing trend in Hawaii of national vacation rental chains coming in and purchasing local, home grown vacation rental businesses. While many of these businesses have a loyalty to their clients and the island of Hawaii, the prices they are getting offered by the national companies they just can not turn down. With that, there is a growing number of national vacation rental companies on the Big Island of Hawaii, which was one dominated by home grown vacation rental companies. I would like to propose 3 reasons you should consider a local vacation rental business when booking your next vacation rental. While there are some businesses on both sides that may not fall within these statements, we have found most of this to be true.
1- Local Customer Service
When coming to the Big Island of Hawaii, hopefully you are not coming just to stay in a nice vacation rental, but also to enjoy all that the island has to offer. Finding out all the great places to see, dine at, and more comes from no better source than someone that lives on the island. When calling most local companies, you will speak with someone that lives on the island. When you call a national company, more than likely you will speak to someone that lives somewhere on the mainland and in some instances, not in this country.
2- Focused Customer Service
Renting from a smaller, local company typically will lead to you having a more enjoyable stay. For most local businesses, your business is important to them. Whereas most national businesses can say the same, the reality is you are staying at one of their thousands of properties around the world and within that can come a lack of care for you specifically. With that being said, sometimes you can rent from such a small local company that they just do not have the capacity to make sure that customer care is to standard.
3- Give Back to the Island
There is a saying in Hawaii that anyone that enjoys the land should give back to the land. If you ever wonder why many locals may not like so many tourists on the islands it is because they believe they come and take from the land an do not not give back. Most national companies are not even aware of this in Hawaii none the less even follow the idea. Most local businesses do and when you do business with them you are a part of giving back to the land. Vacation rental businesses like Waikoloa Vacation Rentals partner with nonprofits on the island to give back to the land. They partner with a nonprofit called E hanai i na hipa a Ke Akua, which is dedicated to services the houseless people on the Big Island of Hawaii. They also partner with DNA Basketball Academy, which is a nonprofit dedicated to working with the youth on the island through the game of basketball.
